The Horizons’ Green R.I.G (Regional Info 2 Go!)
Launched in May 2007, the Green RIG is a giant educational toolbox-on-wheels aimed at raising public awareness of regional environmental issues.
As a mobile, self-contained ‘rapid deployment vehicle’ we can go almost anywhere and cater for any event (school groups, public meetings, festivals and fun days).
Jump aboard and....
EXPLORE how the environment ‘works’
IMAGINE how the future could look, and
ACT to make a change for the better
Staffed by two mobile environmental educators, the RIG travels the roads of our region visiting towns, schools, and rural communities. The RIG follows a pre-set annual calendar route but can be booked for special events, workshops and activities.
On-board interactive exhibits and displays centre on the key themes of WATER, COMMUNITY and HABITATS, with a range of hands-on, outdoor classroom programmes running from the Genesis Energy E.S.I (Environmental Scene Investigation) Lab.
The RIG is a giant renewable energy exhibit, with an on-board solar panel array and a selection of exhibits that promote and demonstrate energy efficiency.
Loaded up with communications technology, the RIG also has video conferencing and multimedia presentation capability, satellite broadband and internet kiosks, webcams and GPS.
